SS2017 Beauty Trends from Milan Fashion Week

I’ve been able to attend various bakcstages during the latest Milan Fashion Week, thanks to MAC Cosmetics to see all the beauty trends. I love backstage: I love to see all those guys at work, the craziness, the excitement. I think it’s really a privilege to see the exact moment when creativity is arising. The designer, the make up artist, the nail artist, the hair stylist: all those people are creating magic.

Are you curious about the beauty trends for Spring Summer 2017? Let me tell you what I saw.

I saw an uber natural skin, less and less foundation and a lot more skincare. Your skin has to look extremely natural, healthy without tons and layers of heavy foundation, concealer, powder, contour products. Forget contouring. It’s time for a new age.

So, choose sheer coverage, lightweight texture. Peachy or pink cheeks. A matte bronzer in a natural colour to be used with a light hand and a fluffy – or duo-fiber – brush along your temples, cheeks and nose, to give the feel that you spent a day out in the sun.

Eyes are wet and glossy. Choose orange or fresh pink eyeshadow as a stained look. Otherwise choose a graphic, optical look.

Lips are stained as well, as a natural flush in rosy colour.

Interview with Terry Barber

I’ve had the pleasure to meet MAC Director of Makeup Artistry Terry Barber in Au Jour Le Jour‘s backstage. We talked a lot about current and new trends, here it is the exclusive interview (be sure to follow him on Instagram, he has one of the most inspiring accounts!):

It’s a very natural make up but it also is super healthy for summer. I think it’s the “new natural bronzing”, completely different from that “Instagram contour”.

I think most of the trends are focusing on how the skin looks. I mean skin is really a trend, having beautiful skin. I think every season it’s getting more and more dynamic: there is a lot of highlighting this season, moist and gloss. I think it’s great in the summer. Lot of skincare, lot of highlights. I like to mix Cream Colour Base with oil and pressing it with the palm of the hands on the high points: it’s an easy way to apply highlighter. I never did strobing, I just call strobing something from Instagram! It’s always been highlighting for 25 years. I think that now in fashion there is a reaction to that social media trends: it’s all about having a great skin, a healthy natural shine. Here in Milan I’ve seen a lot of colour on the eyes, especially light and fresh, yellow and pinks. But for me the main trend it’s all about the quality of the skin: translucent, shiny and with a great texture: lifted, exfoliated and with a good serum. When you achieve that make up could be really simple. With a great skin you can do anything.
